Fusion Splicing and Testing

ATFS provides fusion splicing and fiber testing for outside plant networks across Alabama and Tennessee. We splice, test, and document every connection point to the prime’s specification as part of a turnkey scope.

OVERVIEW

Fusion Splicing and Fiber Testing

ATFS performs single-mode and ribbon fusion splicing across Alabama and Tennessee, along with mechanical splicing where the design calls for it. The scope covers installing and sealing splice enclosures, dome, inline, and terminal, and cable re-entry and jacket repair on existing plant. Splicing is performed on both aerial and underground builds.

Every connection point is tested. We run bi-directional OTDR traces, optical power and loss measurements, and reflectance readings, then verify results against the project’s optical loss budget. Testing methodology follows TIA standards and the prime’s acceptance criteria.

Documentation is delivered in the format the prime specifies. Bi-directional OTDR traces, fiber records, and loss budget calculations are compiled per splice point and rolled into the project closeout package. Emergency restoration splicing is available on active plant.

STANDARDS

Standards We Build To

Splicing and testing follow the industry test procedures and the project’s optical design.

  • TIA fiber optic test procedures (FOTP) for OTDR and loss testing
  • Bi-directional OTDR testing per TIA
  • ANSI/TIA-568 and TIA-758 standards
  • Project optical loss budget and splice loss thresholds
  • Prime documentation specification
OUR FLEET

Equipment We Run

Splice work uses core-alignment fusion splicers, OTDRs, and optical loss test sets.
